These shoes were incredibly comfortable right out of the box. I thought they might be because of the sheepskin lining on the upper inside. The foot bed has a cushion and just a small lift in the heel. I'm not comfortable in a completely flat shoe, so that combination was perfect for me. If you wear a half size, order down - I wear a 5.5 and I ordered a 5. If I ordered a 6 they'd fall off my feet. These are great boots.
